Previous farming system?
Yeah, or at least how it was in W3.
It used to feel more like selective breeding. You plant without knowing what it will be fully grown, then You harvest everything and you replant the stuff that had traits (improved qualities) you desire.
Current system is awkward. Plant something then check it. Sometimes its a good increase, sometimes its not. If its not you either wait or walk a mini-map in a different direction.
Its slightly confusing. Why does waiting change the qualities of whats being planted? This land used to be fine, now I have to plant somewhere else? Sometimes it improves when replanting in the same spot?
This system requires someone to explain to you how it works. The old system explained itself.
I feel the same way about the WWW. In world 2 getting crops explained itself.
You find a patch of wild crops, you interact with them, you get seeds / fruits / vegetables, then your first thought is "I bet I can plant these and have my own crops".
With WWW; You have to look for some abstract object, then you have to dry it on a rack/table (which is a non-obvious interaction). Then you get a seemingly random set of seeds.
From what I gather WWW is symbolic of the domestication of plants. However its just another system that requires explanation. I would rather it be more divorced from reality and self explanatory.
