Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

A world voice chat chills me to the core.... Could we at least have "rooms".

Actually... thinking on this. Jorbtar could charge for this. I have a feeling the people who would use it, would pay for it. The chat room thing that is.

That, and knowing how players like to troll with annoying stuff I'd just leave my game on mute.

Yeah, I wouldn't like to see this in game. To be honest we use a voice chat already and if it was ingame it would 1 slow down the game, which is already unoptimised already and 2 cause greifers to annoy the hell out of you even when your fighting people.

I do not think haven needs this IMO.

It isn't hard to imagine that people would play high-pitched noises on loop, masturbation sounds, bad hiphop, and Trump speeches just for the lolz.

being able yto just talk to other hermits and friendly people would prolly help immensely for creating a community that protects each other from bandits and the like.

I mean being able to speak to other random players would be cool. but I do miss the global chat which you can type in was awesome

It doesn't have to take priority over more meaningful content though, there are lots of suggestions on a daily basis, not all are crucial or even viable ...
And no-one is forcing anyone to use it either, there are times when I've had a stressful day or am tired and not up for talking, I just turn it off or don't respond, ppl tend to just assume you don't have a mic. :)

And again, the annoying ppl who would do that type of thing, i.e. screamers, are far and few between, some of the games I play with voip have a much, much bigger playerbase than Haven and I've not come across it ... I think the majority of ppl just want to chat and have a laugh. Ofc there would always be some idiot but it's not like you are forced to listen to it. :)

Anyway, last time this came up one of the devs commented and said they could see it would be beneficial for some players and a nice idea but they had no plans to implement it any time soon ... if at all I guess, but personally I think it's a shame, I prefer to chat than type and I do also believe it would help in creating a nicer community ... though I don't think ours is as bad as everyone makes out! :)

Pupsi, it's really good idea but... how they will make it? if in DayZ or ARC survival i can understand how it's work, i can't even imagine how it will works here(of course it must be push to talk), what will be the radius of the voice area? if it will be one minimap, that mean all players in small settelment will hear each other or if you will come to some kind trading area, like Sodom trading ground in W3, no1 will hear each other because of spaming in the area voice.

I'm realy want such update to the client it will help players comunicate with each ¦] other but it's need deep development process. I think this game and devs aren't ready for this.

If we push into the technical stuff....

I suppose we could do it in a "room" method. We could do the room thing in two ways, we could either have a dynamic number of rooms... or a set number of rooms.

Dynamic rooms

The server uses the group/party system to find out the distance between the player base.

If it is within a certain amount even if we say... for now 4 minimap. it selects a player central to larger groups of people... naturally it wont be able to encompass all. It then puts those people into a "room" together in the chat server, centred around that player for its radius.

The server would then poll the player base say, every 10-15 mins to check their positions and their concentration. At this point people will be swapped out of the rooms they are in into others if they have moved into another radius. Giving players a message via text and a short beep or sound effect to show this. the increments are to reduce server load on running a constant player poll... also prevents some people from knowing exactly where people are. They would just know where they were.

Static rooms

The server has X rooms, based on the total amount of people logged in. These rooms have set geographical locations with a slight overlap so people can stay in the room they are already in if they go over the boundry.

I don't understand the technical stuff but in H1Z1, for example, you have localised chat between everyone in that area, then you can also form a group, say for a village or even just one friend and then talk privately in that no matter how far apart you are ... which I guess is the 'rooms' Kal is talking about. Both can be done at the same time much like area chat and village chat we have in game.
