I am not opposed to having a range of skin tones, but it somewhat pertains to a more general rework of the character model which is a slightly bigger deal(tm). It'd be very cool to have different sizes and whatnot as well.

Potentially linked to character stats perhaps.
Or like with how hair works "Beer belly: Consume X amount of Y food in Z days".
. . .

Skin color: In case of trouble, the German "blood in games" solution might be an option. ... Green Hearthlings ;) .

Swastika: A symbol way older than the last group (of idiots) that hijack it for there own purpose.

+1 please do add more skin tones

easier to feel connected with your character if the skin tone matches

@jorb
in Rust, skin tone was not chosen by the player. It was automatically assigned and you couldn't re-roll because it was bound to your Steam ID at that point.

Please don't do us like Rust. I just want to be white. It would be cool if people could choose, though.
Also, please make it so we can change our height. Gnome Gang needs to come to hafen.

Add VoIP while you're at it. ;)

This sounds more like a custom client feature. Like the custom resources mods long ago.

I want to be purple. I also want only one eye, and one horn. Wings (for the appearance of flying) would be awesome, too.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Black characters are used as slaves, map is walled off and only white people can pass the gates to play on large map area on certain servers.
If you buy Rust you get a roll what creates your character, it randomly selects your skin color, face, dick size, gender, tit size, hair, pubic hair and so on. If you are black = out of luck in Rust ¦]

Yeah, it's a difficult balance between giving freedom of customizability and still looking appropriate for Haven. I kinda would like things like light pink hair and twintails as well, but I've refrained from suggesting them because do we really want hearthlings to look like that? Then again, with some of the hats that have been released that ship sailed a long time ago...

Agreed. The only difference is that weird hats have been introduced for a good reason: giving an incentive to players to donate money. Should more out-of-theme customization be sold too? Kinda like skins in lots of free games. It might bring more money to the game, but we need to consider the consequences: while selling pink hair or green skin might be ok, making people pay if they want to play a black or brown character instead of a white one might be seen as a racist move. On the other hand, even bad advertising is good advertising sometimes, and a move like that would probably grab the attention of some game news websites; I can already see the articles: "You won't believe what this indie game has done!" - "Indie game makes you pay to be black!" and so on. (or maybe nobody would care, who knows)

Okay this is a funny story, I'll try to keep it short. Bear in mind I don't play Rust so if a Rust player could correct me on details that would be great.

Rust had darker skin tones, players would form groups that selectively searched for and killed black characters. Rumor was it was players from 4chan, of course. The severity varied between servers.

This pissed off hardcore players, who would make their skin as dark as possible, as it gave them a very slight advantage of blending in during the night vs pale skin.

In response, the Rust devs removed character customization, now your character is entirely random, forcing racists to play as a race they don't want to.

This further pissed of the hardcore playerbase, in addition to not being able to choose to be dark skinned, they could no long control their penis size.

You see, the larger the penis, the larger the hitbox, the more likely you are to get hit. Therefore the ideal male form was a short, skinny, black man with a tiny penis, to reduce your hit profile when getting shot at as well as being harder to spot.

... Or at least that's what I heard, again I don't play rust so I'm not certain. The dick thing isn't really relevant to Haven but I though ya'll would find it funny. The point is randomized appearance every few worlds might weed out people that want to do racial cleansing in a video game.

EDIT: or here's an idea, if hearthlings are truly made from clay, let us choose between different clay colours. This would include the bright green of cave clay and the hot pink of Potter's clay. Fuck it.
Boofing and gumping it all damn day. Shoutout to my homeboy Moloch
