Yeah, because armor is going to help when your enemy has way better stats, way better gear and a lot more PvP experience. (Usually strength in numbers, too, because they really don't want to run the risk of random ganking targets actually fighting back.)

Nightdawg wrote:> I want to be able to tell a sprucecap "Stop running or I'll KO you" rather than just KO them to steal their stupid belt and tsacks.

If someone in combat gear appears on your screen and tells you to stop running or they'll KO you, anyone with half a brain starts running immediately as they're probably still going to KO you if you stay still.

Even if somehow you can convince people you won't KO them, the loss of gear and inventory items usually hits a lot harder than the wounds. I'd rather run the risk of getting a few wounds than be guaranteed to lose my best Fox Hat and the rings with my best gems.

I'm not quite convinced making griefing newbies more convenient will lead to a decrease in griefing.

If you played this game for 8 more years than I have, and your PVP experience is lower than mine, that's a *you* problem. If you think people don't go outside their walls alone... lmao. I did nomad quests around the AD main village this world. Alone.

I only want to take their belt, tsacks, or other stuff like some curios, pearls, leather, and teach them a lesson about not prioritising armor over that shit.

Just in case you couldn't read, I made the text bigger. I don't give a fuck about what *you think* I want. I told you what I want. I want to be able to have the choice of not fucking their character up AND get the thing I want from them, the same way they currently have their choice of not running away from me. The amount of people in this game that can't run from the most average PVPer is huge. The amount of people giving up on running away from you is also huge. This would just do them the favour of not getting wretched gores and concussions.

You do whatever you want to do. This topic isn't suggesting the removal of running from someone, it's suggesting having the ability to steal from someone without giving them wretched gores, strictly for the case in which they get knocked out AND stolen from, not just wounded. I want to skip the KO+wounding part for their sake.

It's not making it more convenient, read the god damn OP lmao.
KO + ugly wounds + stealing > just stealing
(Battery + Theft scents) = ("Mugging" + Theft scents)
Basic math you don't seem to comprehend.

Why are you people like this?

No, just make punishments for criminals worse. Week of no teleportation, buff nidbanes by a magnitude etc.

Hell, I'd take at the minimum something that just said 'Hearthling is carrying X items' because unless they have a backpack, you should be able to see whatever they have on them.

You're missing the point. You are not the one who decides whether the mugging turns into an extended chase. I, the target, do so, by running away. Just because you have the theoretical option of merely stealing all my shit (which, again, is worse than KOing me) does not mean I'm going to stop for you. Griefers already tell targets to stop running or they'll KO them. Guess what happens after they stop running, sometimes after a brief exchange where they demand store hats? (Spoiler: The victim has notably fewer items and notably more wounds by the end of it, and no consent was involved.)

Nightdawg wrote:I told you what I want. I want to be able to have the choice of not fucking their character up AND get the thing I want from them

But you won't be getting that. Your original post said,
Nightdawg wrote:(with their consent)

Nightdawg wrote:they toggle this consent or whatever

When it comes to player interactions, you need to consider both sides. Why would anyone consent to this? From your perspective it makes sense, but not from the victim's perspective. Either you run in hopes of getting away, or you let yourself get KO'ed so you can hearth ASAP (leaving you limited time to actually steal stuff). The only reasons to consent I can imagine is if your stuff is replaceable anyways (definitely not the case for the sprucecaps you're robbing) or you're low on HP and likely to die in a combat situation (very rare for peaceful players, even rarer for them to leave their walls in that condition, and even if that situation were to occur they'd be dumb to take the risk and not just run away).

It's not that I'm that strongly against devs spending time on features for robbing sprucecaps (though I do think the game should have less incentive to grief random newbies, not more), but I just don't see your suggestion having any of the stated effects in practice.

Nightdawg wrote:for their sake.

I generally don't attack the potential ulterior motives behind suggestions (as ideas should be evaluated by themselves and not discarded simply because the wrong person suggested them), but I have a hard time believing that someone who mugs sprucecaps for the hell of it (I can't imagine they carry valuable stuff often enough to make it an actually efficient way to gain value) is making a proper suggestion purely for the benefit of his victims with nothing in it for himself.

I never said everyone has half a brain, but thanks for proving my point that doing what your attacker tells you to do is a really, really dumb idea >90% of the time.
