This should be a thing, I remember that during Legacy people had to quarantine everything they bought to not have their main base discovered in Legacy (palibashing was still a thing and Brickwall is hard to make.)
This is less of an issue in current game where building a properly defended base is much cheaper/easier (at least if you read the right guides) but people above pointed out other ways this could be, if not out right exploited, at least "creatively used in manner not intended."
