The Value of Legacy Items
Old hats aren’t just cosmetics. For many of us, they represent milestones – time invested, money spent, and loyalty to the game over the years. They’re badges of honor that show how long someone has supported the game. By making them easily available again and for cheap, you're not just reintroducing cosmetics – you're erasing that legacy.
A Slap in the Face to Loyal Players
Many players paid a premium for those hats. Some of them were exclusive to limited-time promotions or subscriber milestones. By reissuing them, you’re telling your most loyal supporters that their investment was meaningless. It’s hard not to see that as a betrayal.
Impact on the In-Game Economy
Even if there's no official trading market, these items hold sentimental and perceived value. Part of what makes them special is their scarcity. Releasing them again, especially without any distinction between originals and reprints, destroys that value entirely. If people know items can just come back at any time, what incentive is there to support events or subscribe now?
