i like the new gilding system but it definitely fails when using high value gilds.

The assumption here is, you don't want any risk putting in the gild, so you want to apply your best gild when it has a 100% chance of succeeding.
The problem is, when an item (thanes) has more than 1 slot, the only time it converges to 100% chance of success is when all slots minus the last fail. So to get a thanes that can apply a gem with 100% chance, it actually needs to fail EVERY slot. Any saves is actually BAD for the success rate of your final expensive gild, even one save turns your last gild into a 50% chance of application (too risky).

So if you earnestly engage with the system, you get fucked breaking an immense amount of gems. If you optimize the system, wanting to apply JUST a single gem on a thanes; you have to craft a fuck ton of thanes. Even one save reduces the chance to apply your final expensive gem by 50%.

You failing gild makes trader playstyle more viable.
If you get all your silk needs fulfilled fast whats the reason to ever venture out of your base or try to interact with other silkfarmers? Silkmaking will be dead content fast without this new silk sink.

It's a great system with much potential.

All it needs a little nudge in the right direction and it'll become superior to the old one.

Now winter is peak for hunting. Not too long either.
With a few more tweaks like instant snowcover and increased animal spawns it will be perfect.

Honestly the new system is horrible. Just revert to the old one and maybe bump the gilding chances significantly for high-end items

Yeah i burnt dozens of tokens worth of gems this world while i could've just sold them to some other sucker. It's insane that the biggest chance you can get on most rings is around 20-30% IF you match the gilding stats and that's not exactly easy considering all gems of a kind have same gilding stat, so even if you do manage to match the gilding stats (and you have like 300-400 of that stat) you have 70% chance of having to rely on the save roll which is insanely low when you have slots left but also gets worse if you put stuff in.
