Man this would make cave questing, like, 30% easier when you see your QG but have to dig a hole to the next cave to reach him.

Yes, it's possible, but it doesn't seem logical.

I think when we bring something to someone who's giving us a task, we carefully place it at their feet - like a gift. They hardly have the hands to pick up or catch things. While you can report a completed task from a distance by shouting loudly, putting something down seems like you have to get very close. I don't think they'd appreciate it if we threw gifts at them.

You are in a world of magic trees, spells and mythical creatures.
Throwing a quest item to the quest tree like a newspaper boy is not illogical or out of place.
Old pagan tree spirits would be fine with a little whimsy and not see it as disrespect.

I'm always happy to help you see how this idea is not that illogical or without explanation.

...he stepped out of the shrubbery, his heart racing, a slightly rotten trout limply hanging from his clenched fist. As he laid his eyes on a majestic tree, towering behind flimsy yet impenetrable palisade, thundering voice pierced his mind: "I AM JORBUNSGRENDA, BE NOT AFRAID!" Smelly fish corpse in his hands fluttered for a brief moment as if it were alive frolicking in a mountain spring, and suddenly dissipated in a tiny cloud of sparkly fog. "I AM PLEASED", - the voice boomed, - HERE'S SOMETHING THAT WAS LYING AROUND". He looked at his hands, his nose still catching faint lingering fishy smell, and suddenly discovered a block of Teabush wood on his palm. The quest was complete.

There. Hope this helps to keep the inner workings of this fantasy game bearable.
