The problem is that it's currently 480 per kiln. You'd need to be running 40 smelter loads per day to use up 1 tar kiln.

Also you can raise the quality of your tar kiln to yield higher quality coal and tar. Clay will always be tough to get in high qualities but you should be able to use black coal that you mine up as a building material and very quickly it becomes a more valuable asset to raise the quality of future coal than it does to just use your black coal.

Maybe the issue is your making to much not that the amount needs reduced. Abandon modern production thought and produce what you need. :D

We are only producing what we need, in terms of tar. Actually, to be honest, production is a bit low because I didn't want to fire up every kiln last night. =(

We're not, we're using whatever spare blocks we have around. Are some of the woods noticeably higher yield?

No you can't. I double checked with jorb, tar kilns are going to remain quality neutral like drying racks.

I still hold my argument: This amount of coal is fine. It seems your thread title should really have been "Tar kilns don't give enough tar".

Yeah I actually just came here to post and say I created two tar kilns with good quality substance clay and the coal still ended up as q10

It's looking like clay was weakened in importance a bit, trees/stones empowered a bit. Will be interesting to see how the quality grind goes.

If there so easy to make charcoal , why you added blackcoal into the caves?

Absolutely!

Also - In real life Charcoal is NOT easy to make, there is an entire profession around it (especially at the tech level we're at) that requires canny know-how and a relationship with the fire and device you're making it in. Too much air and heat, and you have a conflaguration on your hand, too little of either, and the slow fire that converts wood to coal goes out. Charcoal, rich, quality charcoal, was an art form and a craft.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

A) black coal can have quality nodes, that might impact mid game

B) realism < fun gameplay mechanics.
