I dont see endless string grinding as content or challenge.
Its just boring grinding,

Tbh Ven I agree with shubla on this, not about there being more important things to fix ofc, but I don't see it as a challenge, it's not hard, it's just you need so many early world for practically everything at a time when you have so much to do in establishing yourself. Going out collecting inventories full of string is just boring and a waste of precious time. I love exploring but I'd like to bring back more than just string, lol.

Maybe I'm assuming things aren't supposed to be convenient, and you are. I do like to go out for string and for me what would be boring is if the same argument were applied to other stuff, like cornerposts needing less wood and houses fewer boughs. But this thread will be outdated when people start harvesting their flax in less than a week, so what's really the point?

Palisades and houses do need less wood than legacy, because it didn't add anything to the game other than inconvenience, so convenience does seem to be one of the improvements the developers are aiming for. I don't understand why you would describe repetitive mundane tasks as "challenging", I suppose it's challenging to decide to keep playing games that are full of them.

Farming and butchering are repetitive, while string gathering is a one-time thing that only happens in your first week of the game, there's a difference for me and I don't think it's worth the coding effort. And I don't deny there's a trend for leniency, but that's not so relevant for the player count.

I think string is just fine. The only one that annoys me is the rope walk. Too much time and effort for a basic item. It's one time we should dump realism.

Rope walk wasn't added for realism, it's because Jorb didn't like us making rope-on-the-go.

I'm not saying get rid of it just reduce string requirements for it. I don't mind an extra step but its really annoying.

It's so that the 10 minutes for a cauldron to boil isn't the only time constraint in setting one up.
