Unless you're in a pure ocean province on an island (maybe don't hunt the whale here then) it should take you about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour to find a whale on average.

Whales are effectively some of the best food that is the most difficult to bot.

Issue with whales is that without botting you set out for a 4-12 hour knarr ride with a possibility of getting nothing in return.

You both are literally clueless, there are at most a few whales spawned in the world (some of them can be outside of the map border). If you are only hunting whale when someone tells you about barnacles yeh it's not bad, but finding barnacles is a few hours ordeal if you don't get lucky.
Of course now when nobody is playing you can find a whale easily no shit. Go on, next world when everyone is hunting whales, find a whale everyday in 1-2 hours.
