(DIsclaimer, I don't have any psychology credentials.)
Snail must have some kind of mental deficiency/issue that he is able to usually/mostly "mask" so that he appears (relatively) normal. When it comes to this thread however, I hate to say, he has a valid point.
In terms of gameplay, there really isn't a good reason to have Winter in the game. (Or very least, all the positives are disproportionately outweighed by the negatives.) Jorb probably just went:
It would be cool to have Seasons in my game project. And obviously crops can't grow during winter. I will also ignore the gameplay impacts almost entirely.
It's since been 5 years and all the added Winter content, if I'm being brutally honest, just make it "somewhat less shit."
I remember at least once responding to data, that strongly suggested every in-game winter bites a significant chunk of the current player population, with cope that went something like "people who were about to quit anyway do it when winter hits" but if you want player retention, you really don't want to give them an excuse to quit. Or break their daily routine (even if they just play Farmville, the process of making all the required Mound Beds is an arbitrary chore imposed by Jorb.)
(Simple) Ideas to make it good tend to be "let's convince Jorb to remove it at least partially" like how it's already cut in half and my "active claims passively have the current Mound Bed effect within their entire area."
