Probably didn't do a fantastic job of it, but I'm not trying to imply its a "one or the other" thing. I wouldn't normally care about collecting butterflies or truffles in any other game, in Haven there's a higher purpose for the normally, (to me), meaningless larp (which for me its using it to gain an advantage over others). My point is more the game needs to stop making sudden U-turns every time jorb gets raided or something, because these U-turns are guaranteed to be rushed, probably misinformed and terribly implemented as a result.

About the game's messaging to new players (or lack thereof):
If people are regularly getting drowned despite KO protection/their bases broken into without siege/etc, then the game is definitely failing at explaining that this is the game.

You can do all the cute stuff you want, just be sure you're capable of defending yourself when you need to, in order to keep your playstyle going. Or just learn how to run away, which isn't a very high bar but still one that 90% of people suck at. The game needs to reinforce that these things WILL happen. Don't try to cushion things for new players when they're trying to figure out how to play this thing, because its confusing, and they could spend dozens of hours ingame, only to end up feeling scammed at the end.

To me, getting my shitty palisade raided and my strawberries stolen is far more valuable, because now I know what mindset I need to adopt in the future, rather than having a magical bullshit force field that I can toggle at will to get siegers to go away. No lessons learned there, and its just a giant crutch that will keep me from learning to stop doing dumb things that others can exploit. I might even feel angry that I didn't also get a magical 5 day bullshit force field when someone breaks my boat under me and drowns me.

People of equal skill do not have this large a discrepancy in stats. Because of ua/mc equalization and (most) stats being 2/3/4th roots, stats between fighters are usually much more equal than you think. The problem is that you need to know how to play effectively in order to reach the range where stats converge.

Like Snail mentioned, gear becomes much more important early on because of how quickly STR*WPN damage rises. If you do not have decent steel gear against an equalized opponent with a b12, it is very easy to cleave into your HP.

Balancing of stats and gear for PVP groups of (arguably) equal skill is a different conversation from lowering the barrier of entry for non-factions. The latter is also probably a much more important issue to address, regardless of some hypothetical fairness in a 1v1 with stat imbalance.
