Unbalanced buckets

Postby Illinoise » Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:45 pm

Anyone who is a little familiarized with the game, from what I've seen, is always carrying a bucket of water around with them (including myself).

Because water buckets can be stored in an equipment spot rather than in the inventory, it gives people an insanely large water supply that they can access at any moment while only sacrificing one hand rather than a great deal of inventory space.

I love running around with my bucket, but I feel like it trivializes things like water skins when I can just lug it around while foraging instead of making other expensive means of storing water in the inventory.

I think that carrying a bucket of water should limit your movement speed to a walk (or a crawl if the devs happen to be sadists) or maybe limit it to a crawl with a walk costing stamina.

Sorry fellow bucket runners

no, this is intended. Before people just used a script that drank for them automatically anyways. This version gives everyone an even footing.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

It's much more balanced now that you can't lug around five or six buckets at once

What are waterskins intended to be then? Expensive less efficient buckets?

It's much more balanced than 6 buckets at once, but it's by no means perfect. I feel like buckets should be used to transfer water to bigger containers and waterskins should replace them in foraging.

I ain't designing the game, but the existence of waterskins seems redundant with how buckets are used now. You almost never need two hands to do a task while foraging, so buckets as they are now are OP for that purpose.

A slower movement speed with a full bucket would fix basically all problems I see with them at the moment. If buckets were used only to transfer liquid from container to container rather than a one handed waterskin, I feel like infinite sprinting would be avoided a bit more.

Usable when you have a two handed tool like a shovel or pickaxe?

Out of topic, would be nice if you could hide it, even in my fancy dress everyone know that I come from a farm.

Like I said, buckets seem to be op for the purpose of foraging. It seems silly to me that sprinting around with a bucket is more viable than bringing a waterskin.

If you are willing to bring a full bucket with you to mine, you can always just pick it up when you need to drink, making it just as useful as before.

How the hell is this off-topic? I'm trying to convey an idea I had that I believe would improve the game.

The water skin is a compliment, an extra 3L that the bucket can't hold
The idea is always to bring as much water as you can

Gotcha. My mistake.

It makes sense that bringing as much water as possible is a viable strategy, but the ability to carry 10L around, especially in the early game, is beyond overkill.

The 3L of water that a waterskin provides seems like a much more balanced alternative than the easy to make 10L buckets which take no inventory space while cruising around.

Just to clarify, I DO NOT think that buckets should be carried in inventory like they were in legacy; I think that carrying a full bucket should lower your movement speed.
