Adjustment to fighting mechanic.

Postby Faraen » Sat Sep 05, 2015 1:01 am

When The fight starts, the 5 battle options are presented and are binded to keys from 1 to 5. While in Battle mode all of the previous 1-10 binds are inactive. That turns out to be not only confusing, but also incredibly frustrating, and deadly. One would want to quickly toggle swimming, or be able to shoot arrows while in battle. Simplest solution would be to make the battle binds to sth. like alt+1-5, and clickable, because now they are not clickable and that's also confusing. The best solution though would be to copy the fighting system from legacy haven, where you could bind actions to keys in ender client, and could choose between few tabs of binds.

Thanks for your time, hope that that will get tweaked.

I'd rather see the normal 1-5 binds become alt+1-5

You're spamming those keys a lot, far more than you'd ever toggle swimming or shoot arrows.

Given the way the new system works, binding attacks to action keys would only get MORE confusing. The constant shuffling of moves is part of keeping you on your toes, and remembering which key to hit for what by both visual and tactile recognition. Also, the moves keep changing.

I agree with the clicking though, that's decidedly a good idea.

Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

Or you can just.. have 5 moves in your deck and always have the same set of moves avaiable.

And then you get to enjoy having a massive disadvantage against any player who is intelligently using more than 5 moves!

I agree that stealing hotkeys 1-5 is a bit confusing. On the other hand its predictable once you know it, and you can plan around it. Any better ideas on how to hotkey the combat actions are welcome. We've considered "qwert", but that potentially conflicts with the action menu, and breaks on non-standard keyboards.

Something that would you let use both the numpad, and combat options with just your left hand sounds good, so a combination hotkey would work, like:
->Shift+1-5
->Ctrl+1-5
->Tab+1-5
Just pick one that doesn't interfere with other things :)

There should in any event be mouse support for combat.
