Praise the anvil

Postby Sollar » Mon Sep 14, 2015 5:19 pm

So a few days ago, after eating all the boars, bears and rats on a 10km radius, after drinking tons of water, after cracking every wall of my cave, after sweating rivers, I finally found metal. Unfortunately it's the worst possible metal - tin. Still better than nothing, at least our little settlement finally could upgrade to metal age. So of course we celebrated with a huge hardcore party, playing dungeons and dragons and drinking apple cider all night long. Being carried away by all that cider I suddenly stood up and shout out loud in the middle of the party - "Tomorrow everyone gets spectacles!". The night has passed, the ore got smelted into bars, bars cracked into nuggets, sand smelt into glass, everything ready when suddenly - YOU NEED AN ANVIL TO DO THAT. What the hell ... not fair. Everyone is at my door with their prescriptions ready to get their promised glasses. Oh please help a poor optometrist not to run out of business before he even started.

Seriously now - isn't it a little punishing to require an anvil for a meager hunter's belt, a pair of glasses, or some tin symbelware? Please jorb make it like it was in Legacy HnH and make anvil a requirement only for higher smithing items.

Thanks

At the very least spectacles could be made with a crucible, you're not so much hammering metal as twisting wire.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

He could make a working table, made of hard leather (or leather) some feathers, wood as a work station for soft easy metals. Still would need a hammer, but ya... normaly that uses a different type of hammer (ballpean (spelling?)).

I already brought up that spectacles needing anvils is a little mean. Do agree.

I agree somewhat needing a iron anvil is a bit much. Maybe a lesser version can be used for simpler things that do not require such a durable platform. After all we didnt always have iron but did have other metals.

How is it mean. The anvil and hammer is an investment of the metal you found so that you can craft more stuff. Build an anvil and a hammer and stop whining that the game should be more casual just so you won't have to put in any effort.
