Shop Amounts Modified by Region

Postby Jesus_Smith_Nandez » Mon Sep 14, 2015 8:42 pm

So about 2 days ago I decided to go ahead and drop 10 beckeroos on 1 month of game time. To my dismay, I ended up spending around 14$ for my sub (rounded up), as I paid in Canadian Dollars. I knew this would most likely happen, as the Canadian Dollar is in a bit of a pit right now, but that doesn't change the fact the the shop said 10$, and I paid 14$. This could be shocking to people who weren't prepared to spend that much money and live in Canada or some other region that has a dollar value below the USD.

Like if someone lived in Zimbabwe, for example. They see 10$ for a sub. They think it's a bargain, but in reality they spend much more because

Jokes about inflation in Zimbabwe never get old to me tbh

So, change the shop to auto-update based on different dollar values, rather than always showing the price in USD to avoid confusion.

It won't change the subscription amount but it is helpful to see the currency amount of your locale. Good idea! :)

I'd say a much simpler solution would be to say that the dollar used in the shop is USD. 10$ USD shouldn't surprise anyone that there's currency conversion involved.

An auto converter for local currency wouldn't exactly be trivial amount of effort to implement compared to simply stating the currency more explicitly.

That's not the point. Me and you might read or use common sense to see that it is in USD, but the point isn't you and me, it's everyone in general. There are definitely other people paying in CAD who never checked their receipt and payed more than they realized they did.

So state explicitly that it's in USD. If someone pays for something listed as: 10$ USD, and they don't expect it to be a price in american currency there's not much help you can give them. Paypal also tells you at the confirm screen what the currency conversion is.

There's a point where it's not worth the effort to help people if they're not helping themselves. Printing the cost's currency a touch more explicitly should suffice that criteria.

That's not a fix at all. Someone should not have to look up the conversion rate for their currency just because only USD is posted. Even a drop down menu or something would be much more professional-looking than just having USD and no option to change it.

Currency changes value constantly though, which is why exchange markets are potentially so lucrative. It's probably a better idea to leave conversion rates up to organizations that specialize at it. Paypal at the very least always confirms a purchase with you before letting it go through, so you can see the amount you're being charged.

And vainly try to identify the user's preferred currency display? Nah, brah. Were I buying the game I would not want to see the price in SEK.

well, IF by any chance happening the game in steam\steam greenlight, the currency convesion and payment problem could be solved as steam would recalculate teh price in the currency of a player's country and accept moniz via local "givemoniz" services.
