"Study Next" Option

"Study Next" Option

Postby Fierce_Deity » Fri Oct 02, 2015 3:32 am

This idea will most likely rub a lot of people the wrong way, but I think it would be nice for the more casual players who just can't get on during the day or for over 12 hours at a time.
What I was imagining is an option to mark up to 3 items in your inventory to automatically be placed into your study box once there is room. Even if you are offline.
I'm really just spit balling here so feel free to add to this. I just thought it would be nice for the less hardcore players to not have to worry too much about their dfly finishing when you won't be on for another 8 hours.

I'm casual myself... but I don't really know what to say.

I mean - don't get me wrong. It's a nice idea and I'd appreciate something like that. But even though I can't explain how right now, I feel like this would be exploited somehow or help botters or something like that... Maybe I'm just traumatized from all the botting/farming we faced back in the day, and now things are different... with paywalls and other stuff for bots, no more LP banks to make griefers think twice before acting, etc.... but, I dunno...

I feel that somehow, in some deep, creepy way, someone will find a way to abuse this mechanic.

I mean, anyone who's botting is already running auto-study scripts. They're in a lot of public clients. Surprised jorbtar doesn't do anything about them.

I like you're idea also Triple D. I just want to see something implemented to help out people who don't use auto study clients or don't have the time to log in during the day to refresh curiosities.

It will not be implemented, cause two reasons:
Boting and alting will become even stronger with this.
Current implementation check curios when you enter the game, they will never be learned when user is offline, so next curios will not be triggered before you enter the game.

Bots and custom clients already have this feature. This would purely be a boon for players using the default client.

Aware of the general issue, but I don't have a solution off the top of my head that I actually like. I generally find the curiosity system to be a bit too devoid of decision points, and it would also be nice if it were more time insensitive.

To make them more time insensitive you can make more long duration curios. Or take the existing ones like deer antlers and make them better so they are used more often.

Another idea is to make Attention Limit build up over time, similar to how Hunger works now. Then you don't feel a need to keep your box full at all times.

I'd appreciate some sort of study next option, or way to bank study time for unused slots.

As it is now... it feels kinda cheesy to carry mirkwoods in my inventory or to run back to base every 45 minutes because if I don't I'll start running behind everyone else...

same deal with running bot scripts to auto study or not, I know I'm running behind by not doing it which makes me feel bad. But on the same hand I don't want to have to leave my computer on while I sleep wasting electricity to get more LP.
