More mechanics for player-made lore

Postby venatorvenator » Mon Oct 05, 2015 2:25 am

The game has a well developed crafting system, and an even more advanced combat system. But I still miss some improvement of useless mechanics that have nothing to do with either pvp or quality grind. What I'm suggesting are some ideas to improve that.

Things to write and draw on
°implementation of parchment.
°implementation of codices/scrolls/books: by right-clicking one parchment on another, you bind them together and then are able to read it page by page, occupying only one inventory slot.
°in parchments, give us the option to choose letter colors: that way we can tweak the text and make artwork, just like we currently do with paving art.
°make parchments hangable on walls.

Minor monuments
°Allow us to build stuff that serve to no other purpose than decoration, power projection, or worship.
°By that I mean dolmens, obelisks, menhirs, and related structures that are hard to build but which look cool and fit the period.

Druid/artificer progression
° A special building recipe granted to those who buy the top nature/industry skills
°An idea could be the nature player being able to plant the tree of life, a comparatively large tree, and the industry player being able to build a tall or wide stone tower.

Yurt
This world's map is huge and we should enjoy that rather than just spend the entire game walled in. Living like a nomad should be a viable way of playing.
° Add yurts to the game: packable tents, like the roast spit, with an ownership system similar to the lean-to.
° The yurt should provide average protection to the nomad's stuff and have soak and hp similar to a palisade.
° Inside it the player could set up small tools that currently can't be done in the open, like setting up a drying rack and tanning tub before logging out or moving on with in his travel.
° Tweaks would be needed to prevent abuse, maybe restricting its deployment to 50 tiles from any wall, palisade, pc claim or hearthfire; not allowing the door to be locked in case of crime debuffs, and whatever else is needed.

Considering the game relies on farming for quality grind, I don't see how nomadic lifestyle is compatible in the slightest.

Yes and the point with the last suggestion was precisely to add mechanics for a playstyle not oriented by grind.

Things to write and draw upon would be nice. Some of your monument ideas I like. Special constructions linked to skills...I personally like it but it goes back to Jorbs statement he didnt want exclusive things as such. Nomadic culture should be included. However the yurt taking soak like a wall I dont like. A sharp sword can and would cut into them.

It would still require vandalism as per a lean-to, and if it's relatively easy to make I don't think many players would go through the effort of leaving a scent to bother with it.

Parchment should be restored at the very least.

Well, nomadic lifestyle is ofen made of stealing chickens, beging, playing flute in the street, that sort of life can be done in the game.
Instal a mini-camp of leanto+claim, hunt, dry hide and make leather (that you could trade) while exploring and stealing around and move.
