Range Indicator from Party Member

Would it be possible to have a distance meter of some sort to indicate how far away from a party member you are? For example I want to trade with Joe Dirt and we party up so I know what direction to travel, but I have no idea if I will be traveling 10 minutes or 10 hours with the way things currently are. Of course such a meter may not be useful until the bug is worked out where you have to party and break party numerous times due to false readings over long distances.

At the moment you can ask your buddy to move perpendicular to the arrow direction so you can estimate the distance by how fast the arrow moves.
