Design preview (materials) when building objects

Since constructions now take the used materials into account, and the process of building is deterministic, a preview button for build sign would be nice: Clicking it the server would stimulate the build and display in-world how the construction would look if one would build it now, taking the materials available (same order as building it, inventory and stockpiles) into account.

This would save people from having to break new houses when the result is not what was intended and even Stevie Wonder complains that the colors are to loud...

I think the best player experience would be when you start building the UI has a preview where you select the different materials for each slot.
Then the construction site will only accept the materials selected during the preview.

Have little drop down boxes, or left/right arrows where you can scroll through the different wood/stone/plank/thatching etc

Even only be able to select from the materials that you have discovered, if that's more inline with the vision for the game.

I would love this! Especially since it is not always clear which materials are going where, or which part of the wood is being used or even which builds are going to do this and which aren't, I had no warning my cellar door was going to, I expected it to work as cupboards do for some reason ... devs making everything complicated as usual ... :roll:

But yes, this would prevent a lot of mistakes and lost materials or having to live with an eyesore. You know they won't implement it though Granger, they like to make us cry. :(

Give him some credit. There's a good man under that thick troll skin of his, I believe.

I'd love to see this implemented. I thought someone would already have done some little clever program for this, but I know nothing of java and dunno how hard would it be.

I like it but I don't like a feature which spoils, for example, material types you haven't discovered yet. Arguably the building interface should construct buildings mesh by mesh, and perhaps give a preview through that somehow.

But it doesn't spoil anything, as the suggestion is to generate preview from materials stockpiled by the construction site.
