So, a telescope/spy glass?

Would require glass lenses and leather/metal?

That allows you to look in 1 direction up to one cell away from your characteR?

Then again I'm not really sure when the technology was developed so maybe it doesn't fit the timeline.

With 'one cell' you mean minimap tile (100 ground tiles)?

Would break current village layouts that rely on render distance to how the juicy stuff.

Apart from that, what is the use case?
