Steel crucibles in houses

I'd like to propose that you allow steel crucibles to be built inside houses, be it only top floors for magical ventilation or cellars in the idea that no one would go down there too often, idk.

The reasoning behind this is that past the first palibasher in any one world iteration, new camps will be unable to evade the armies of scouts a raider faction can dish out. If they want a quiet medium sized claim any attempt at brickwalling will be visible and their steel sought after. Mind you my steel got stolen only 5 hours after its completion timer finished , so i've no clue just how frequent these scouting passes are, but it seems to be trending and is quite harsh on mid-game to late game new camps if they can't so much as prepare for a wall in peace without being squashed way too easily.

Ideally the siege patch will help fix some of these issues, I would hope , but in the meanwhile raiders seem to be picking everyone clean in anticipation of the siege patch. At the very least a nice change letting people be discrete with their valuables would be nice.

Myeah, maybe. Might consider.

This can be solved by simply doing a second pallisade making the inner palli off sight. This way you can avoid other people knowing what you are doing.
Also you can build them inside the mine.
Steel crucibles inside houses make 0 sense.

Because every hermit can make a 50 tile thick claimed area buffer to block view of their actual claim, yes? And because such bulky claims are desireable :P Make people work even more for a tiny bit of comfort. One argument against my idea though would be that from that point on anyone with a house might become a target :\ but no real idea how to make hermit life a bit less painful aside from having raiders vassalize and tax rather than outright murder and pillage like savages.

You can build smelters underground, right? Scouting the underground is much more work than scouting the surface.

This.
Thats a problem related to unexperience and the leak of a proper tutorial. Pallisades are very easy to build compared to legacy. The problem is terraforming. Thats a lot of work for a single person, and of course this left you sold to organized raiders if you are not organized enough.
The solution isnt that one you writted.

Palisades may be easy to build but at the moment they are also easy to smash. I realize steel crucibles can be built underground but that in itself puts another obscure requirement on where you place your base. So indeed inexperienced newbies now need to know to not have cave tunnels too close to their own, or need to build a minehole in caveless areas with wax being the pain that it is to get. Most people i've seen raided in my area even before palisades were an issue had so happen due to mines leading into their base via a complex tunnel system, much like my area's mine system. Granted the solution might not be steel crucibles in houses, but it'd be a start to make the raiders second guess what targets to hit until we get that tutorial and the siege changes.

Come on. Do you want the game so easy? Do you really want to be invulnerable to raids with zero effort?
What happens if you want to play as a raider? Again: this is not the Sims.

I fail to see how making the system harder than whack-a-mole would really harm raiders. Atm it's whack a mole where you see steel, you whack, you loot, mole quits. With hidden steel you'd just have some moles not yield steel, making you less trigger happy for raiding. Still get loot from lazy people, harder to guarantee loot from people that want to choke on steel smoke in their house. People won't need to hunt for minehole mats as the only early game strategy to be able to play at all.

Forcing people to build very large bases is a dumb solution, tbh. We already can't shoot over walls or aggro over walls, both very good changes, which were also "unnecessary" if you built a curtain wall, so I think this change would be great.
