Pepper costs so much

Postby CorwinOfAmber » Thu Dec 17, 2015 5:51 am

so when you look at the fresh drupe it's a cluster, than you dry it and only get one, than you have to grind five to get .01 of pepper. That seems a bit much for only enough pepper to make a mouse sneeze, could we get a better return on pepper or does the peppermill stretch that out better? as i have yet to find metal in all my hours of mining and countless cave ins i cant test it

this is true. should be at least 0.01 per drupe, but would like it to be closer to 0.05/drupe.

5 drupes to pepper a food sounds valid.
It's more that harvest from a pepper plant 1-2 drupes seems wrong.
According to wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pepper#Plant" A single stem will bear 20 to 30 fruiting spikes."

From game balance perspective, pepper almost doubles the amount of FEP you can gain daily, so it cannot be cheap.
Right now you just build few hundred of trellises and tables once, and have unlimited supply of pepper with a little playtime investment (carry peppercorns to the cauldron and to the tables). So making just more peppered foods per trellis is just making the game easier without any added value.

IMO, what needs to be done additionally is increasing the player involvement in pepper production.
Easiest way - make pepper boiled like eggs or morels - inside of cauldron.

No I think pepper is right where it should be for the benefit.

Its one of the few items a new player can produce that is actually tradeable with more advance players. Leave it where it is. If anything other things need to be just like it (I'm looking at you barely flour...).

I'd rather see it easier to produce and have a lower base effect so it's cheap to pepper a few items instead of one large base item per FEP point gained.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

a few hundred trellises for just pepper seems over kill for the hermit, not to mention all that space could be used for plenty of other things.

I agree.
