Sword Grindstone & Tool Wear Idea?

Wear on Instruments and Weapon

Postby LadyGoo » Sun Jan 10, 2016 11:54 pm

It would be nice to have wear not only on the armor, but on swords and various instruments. Therefore it will create a need in constant metal production and help the trades to thrive.
This will also make mass botting a bit harder.

Sword Grindstone & Tool Wear Idea?

Postby Bowshot125 » Mon Jan 11, 2016 12:11 am

Having swords & other tools become dull, needing sharpening. Its wear bar lowers overtime with use, eventually using more stamina/doing less damage. You would need a grindstone not for flour, but for tools. Using these to sharpen your tool back to its top wear brings them back to normal function or even a faster function? Maybe require a nugget or so to sharpen it along with the grindstone. Rare chances for the quality to rise or drop by .1-.2 when sharpening? Sharpening would give blacksmiths more to do, like after a small to large battle, swords & other things would need working on again. Okay idea or too larpy? :D

I'm not saying tools/weapons would be destroyed at wear 0, just need materials to be patched up. So in the end you don't lose your q120 b12. But after killing stuff with it, would need maintenance.

I would rather not have to worry about wear on every item.
Its fine to sit in an ivory tower and deem that its manageable, but having to constantly make new pick axes, smithy hammers, scythes, butchering tools, and weapons... Its just boring, doing the same thing over and over, with no advancement.

A large village isn't going to need to trade for new metal items, only a smaller village.
The smaller village is going to quickly run out of mojo having to collect X amount of something to trade, just to get a new tool of the same Q, to do what they actually wanted to do.

I suggested that last world, I think the devs' response to that was "meh" and the community's was "fuck you".

Capping equipment decay on q5 would be a better option than just destroying it in my opinion.

Fuck durability. Make botting harder? That's stupid. It just makes the game more tedious and require EVEN MORE GRIND. WHICH ENCOURAGES MORE BOTTING.
Durability is fucking annoying. Just no. Awful suggestion.

Please no. Tools becoming outdated in terms of quality is a much more reasonable incentive for trade.

I'm all for the need to maintain equipment or outright replace it when it breaks. I suggested this myself at one point.

I don't think it's required on pickaxes or butchering tools, since both of those get quality creep that makes replacements desirable after a while. Weapons kinda the same but ehn...

My issue is that tool replacement is annoying as hell in most games. It's a feature I genuinely detest.

Unless we engage the curio system and make worn tools/weapons/armor compact into a curio so you get a little reward? But not good enough that people would feel a need to bot it. It's a compromise I'd tolerate personally.
