How to balance a little the new aggro/hearth/Spruce Steel

Postby grandexandao1 » Tue Jan 26, 2016 2:24 am

Okay, i am Wulf's Brother, and he suggested that i should come here and post the ideia he already did for me.

So the issue is basically a dude full clad Q1250 steel plate looking to a spruce cap and thinking : Hell yeah.
Water + food run ftw.

There is a way i think to make the spruce dude or the leather dude be able to run and also at the same time add some new stuff to pvp like a archer + leather against a plate + sword.

Meaning : Running with plate would use like X+2 stamina.
While Leather would use X+1
Spruce cabbages = X

the nooblings would be able to flee easier, IF they are smart to carry water and else.
To combat a feature like an archer running and having the skill to shoot in the short space of time between him and the plate would be cool. (Remember arrows are cool against armor atm)

Plate vs plate would be no advantage to either.

A plate running against a fast stronger leather would be a loss.

Just thinking.

I think this way some stuff would be better balanced and at the sime time spruce cabbages would stand a chance.
While heavy people would keep the (Good) advantage of this patch

Just some thinking, polish the ideia as you will.

Yeah no. People would just run equipment swapping bots.

Equipping/unequipping armor should take 1 second standing still. I mean, it's barely noticeable, makes sense and if you only equip/unequip legs, helmet and chest, that's already 3 seconds standing still that would be enough to make equipment swapping bots useless.

Not all equipment - just armor. Swapping weapons/clothes/etc is fine.

Just make a debuff, so that the steel debuff lasts 30 seconds after it's taken off. Leather, etc.

Debuff is 30 seconds long but doesn't start counting down until it's taken off.

another good ideia.

its "pretty easy"(for me =P, i dont think jorb/loftar agree lol) to put the "changer bot" out of this one.

Well, whatever the solution, I think the important point here is:

An interesting way to balance scales between super strong players (steel age), average/median players (leather, etc) and complete noobs (spruce/naked) is to work on the now obligatory "run for your life" mechanics.

Speed or stamina consumption debuffs for heavy armor seem not only reasonable and plausible but also a good solution that would also promote other mechanics:

Light armor fighters, a way to preserve forager characters and such, more tactical decisions...

I like this.

Could also give way to more armor sets. Plate mail being the heaviest and providing the most protection. But stuff like just pure chainmail, decent protection and not quiet as heavy. To hardened leather vs simple leather, hardened restricting movement more than leather but providing more protection, but still easier to move in than chainmail.

The need to allocate set debuff to each piece is needed though, so that people will find a balance, maybe wearing plate greaves, but opting with a chain-mail chest piece. So that they get a little more protection than pure chain-mail, and a little more speed than pure plate.

This system would require a running debuff that changes as pieces are equipped, with the values from old pieces falling off 30 or some amount of time after taken off. People would wear pure leather in for the chase then switch to pure plate when they catch up, but that gives the defender a chance to juke them while the plate mail is in place and make ground against their opponet, maybe even enough distance to refill their stamina bar while the person chasing would have less chance of doing so, unless they deequip further and run the risk of getting ganked by allies, or their prey turning on them.

This puts the attacker at a disadvantage when initiating on leather/newbie geared players, as they could just have a plate set waiting in their inv for when the attacker closes in.

Just food for thought.

I think you'll just run into a situation where everyone only wears whatever makes them run faster. There's no point in wearing plate if you can't catch people with it on or escape them. I for one really wouldn't enjoy running around with only spruce gear on because the alternative is being left in the dust or gang beat by groups of people who run faster than me. Speed is stronger than every combat stat in the game, and certainly stronger than some armor class.
