Not sure what a crossbow would bring to the table realy. Would seem just like a cosmetic thing....

Really finding it hard to think of something else that a crossbow would do that a bow could not.

You mention armour penetration, but its not the bow/crossbow that has armour penetration (assuming same stats or in the real world, draw weight)... its the arrow. A higher quality bow and higher skills will deal more damage.

Maybe suggest different arrows? to bleed or bind

Arrows shouldnt do much damage against an armored enemy unless it strikes a weak point in the armor, a crossbow however is powerful enough to go through armor because its shooting a large object at incredible speed. Especially the ones reinforced with metal themselves were quite deadly.

if you have a bow and a crossbow putting out... say 90-100lbs of force (upper proposed limit of the english longbow) it comes down to the arrow if it goes through the armour. The arrow will fly at the same rate.. mostly.. towards its intended target.

The difference in the bow and crossbow in the real world comes down to skill. The english longbow man/woman, could fire more arrorws in a shorter space of time than the crossbow. however, the crossbow was so much easier to use. So the loss of a crossbow user was nothing compaired to the years of training of a skilled archer.

having a stone or bone arrow vs metal is just going to shatter the arrow. but a better made arrow (or bolt) will go though the armour as its what its made to do.

I did think of a way that the crossbow could be used. Make the crossbow use strength stat rarther than perc or agi (sorry, not read game mechanics much for hafen bows to know which yet)

Loved the older ones, spent so much time on them. Lets forget about the latest one... no auto save, poor graphics for the amount of memory it needed. :( sad panda

i think we should have a few more ranged weapons like short/long bow and compound bow with different purposes to suit different play styles and to add some to the game

Crossbows were made at a lot higher draw weight. There's a reason they had different loading mechanisms. Those with a windlass and a steel bow they went up to 5000 pounds.

Crossbow would be B12 of archery.

Which is more than a 9mm pistol and not very far from an assault rifle. Some armies still use crossbows nowadays.
