Why not try to maximize your storage per space ratio?

3x3 tiles can hold 7 Cupboards and you can open every one of them by standing in the center.

Even with your setup, you could be able to access 3 of those at a time, i see no need to connect all storage spaces. If anything, we should consider larger storage options.

Increasing nxn would rock, but maybe its more confusing. Dont know. Anyway, as you say: larger and easyly accesible storage options.
