for ending next world

Things I think this ending has taught us:
Waiting for the world to end is depressing.
Having the world ends team being defenders was a bad idea.
Not having a solid time frame makes people nervous.
The hope for a fight on the final day has people sketchy about doing any fighting, killing the idea of grand epic battles during these 2 weeks.

So, the alter was a lame idea, and should be scrapped, but I think we shouldn't toss the baby with the bathwater. Having an epic end of world everyone fighting event would kick ass, especially if it felt we had more input, no matter who we are.

My suggestion then is that you spawn in some sort of super troll, that symbolizes the end times. It's goal is to drive endlessly smashing everything in its way, killing everyone who distracts it on its way from special statue to special statue destroying them. Unimpeded and unaided, it should take 1 month to do. People who want to stall the world ending can hunt and fight the troll *killing* it causes it to rest for 10 min before respawning somewhere and setting back off on it's path. People would have to co operate on the forums, telling of the utter devastation it wrought upon them when it tracked on them and destroyed their whole settlement before they noticed that the crafter in the tower was utterly fucked, and then going out and hoping it caught onto you're scent and you can pull it away from the special statue locations. Every time the troll killed someone, it would get a tiny bit faster, and no one could inherent after the troll had spawned.

As soon as you die, you either un involve yourself, or you join the end the world team. People who want to encourage the world to end faster can battle to the death, against friends, foes, the troll, living out their dream of being eaten by a bear, so long as they die, even if they don't have the stats, they go to Valhalla. Because it's the end, gods have unleashed frost trolls upon the hearthlings, the favored warriors, and the spirits of all those who die in the ending remain on the world to aid in the destruction. Unlike the troll, they have infinite stamina, move at horse speeds, and have a preset armor and blade of the gods. (it would be pretty shitty ¦] ) they would not be able to interact with trees, chests, industry, but they would fly through walls and be able to search through all the floors of the building but the cellar. Every time your ghost form is killed (they would need to be relatively weak, perhaps growing stronger alongside the troll with the more players have died?) You wouldn't be able to come back for 10-30 min, and you would spawn somewhere randomly within a certain range, with a sensor guiding you to the nearest player. Perhaps ghost forms could fight and disperse one another to get slightly more powerful capping out at back to where they were alive to encourage ghost on the same player to fight one another first. If no living players are online, each dead one would speed up the troll a little more, to a max of 1 week if everyone just killed themselves and sped it up the troll.

The idea is that powerful warriors might initially hunt and fight and slow the troll, then they might try setting up and staging defense at the statues, before finally the only living players live in caves cowering in their cellars from the 20 ghosts having a brutal group fight over who gets to tear your flesh off when you want to go out to try and scrape out a little more metal for armor cause these fucking ghosts keep breaking it, because you will be damned if you will let that troll win any faster.

It might be a little complex with all the constant shifting with new players and new deaths and new logins and new distractions for the troll to have a live countdown on the front page (no exuse not having that for the alter) you could give us twice daily updates on the front page for the date of reset. This would help to make it a tug of war, being able to actively see your effects on the frontpage.

Perhaps a fully powered ghost could go into a cellar, in order to prevent people from infinitely idling, but this is where the idea gets fuzzy in my mind, perhaps this is terrible, but if anyone would like to expand on it, go ahead.

I think that the altar was a great idea that just didn't come to fruition, and agree that it should be scrapped. I would rather see the end of the world come about due to dragons in some way. Its been mentioned before that jorbtar want to implement them somehow. Something along the lines of a massive dragon boss that needs to be defeated to prevent the worlds end could be fun. It could even be guarding an altar of sorts.

What makes you think the devs care? Did they even lightning-patch the great hall soak decay?

I think the best idea would be a conquering army, say, a massive roman legion, marching their way north combing the entire map and destroying anything in their path.

Much more interesting fighting an army than just ganking one enemy

I agreed with everything up until that last sentence. The idea was not bad, the implementation was. Having a final battle to determine the fate of the world is a good idea, just the 'fail to defend and you'll have to wait another two weeks' part ruins it.

The whole thing would have easily been fixed if destroying the altar didn't reset the timer. Once the altar is destroyed, it should just allow people to build a new altar, and the countdown would resume from where it left off (so if it got destroyed at 11 hours remaining, the new altar would cause the world to end in 11 hours). That way, there could be a final battle without massively frustrating everyone if the altar ends up being destroyed; even multiple destructions would result in a delay of a couple hours at most.

Alternatively, destroying the altar could cause the world to end. People could fight over who stands on the altar, while at the same time people try to destroy it. The person remaining on the altar when it gets destroyed would be designated the winner.

I dislike the idea of having an event that causes the end of the world that can go on indefinitely or takes a very long time; if you ask me, two weeks was already a bit too much. Knowing the world is about to end drains all motivation to play seriously (building stuff, trying to get new stuff/raise quality/etc), and we don't really need more than a week to mess around and celebrate the end. Anything beyond that is just a boring wait for the end of the world.

I think there should be server events....

the way each of those pans out will have an effect on the world. So if we "fail" or "win" an event it gets recored. When there are say X failed to win ratio... then we get a end of the world event/s. We can push it back or save it... but not so heavily based on a single altar.

The people actually doing something during the event, get something shiny... but not game effecting next world. This is to give people a reason to actually log in during the doomsday.
