Push and Pull

Postby PhrozenFox » Mon Feb 22, 2016 10:47 pm

Lift is nice and all, but I can't lift a cupboard and put it down onto a trapdoor.

But I have an even nicer idea regarding that:

Any building that can't be moved can have multiple hearthlings stacked up against it, and if they have enough combined STR, they can push the building.

Of course, you can't push a house or it would collapse, but you could push a brick oven, right?

Additionally, you could lift up a heavier building onto Logs like an ancient egyptians did in order to construct the pyramids.

2 Hearthlings mount one side with rope, 3 push from the other side, and just have some logs sitting there. One hearthling keeps replacing the logs with a simple Lift command.

You can just right click the cupboard whilst you are holding it, then you get a 'ghost' of it which you can place and your character will put the object down there. So you can place a cupboard on a trapdoor.

Oh I remember that now! TYVM!

But what do you think about pushing buildings? It would even leave a cool effect of pulled dirt underneath it. I know the purpose of them being immobile is realism, and doesn't really have anything to do with balancing or whatever.

Like, you couldn't push a Tar crucible, but you could push a smelter, and some things would require the logs.

It's a nice idea, but I can't imagine anything but grief. Village chat would likely end up as 'Ok guys... very funny, where's my oven now?'

The idea of multiple hearthlings working together on more things, a bit like they can on the battering ram now does sound fun though.
