Performance & FPS

Postby RaidenKoizuma » Wed Feb 24, 2016 12:34 am

Now, I know I don't have the best computer but wow does this game not perform well. It seems to me that this game just dosen't...perform aswell as I think it should. It's quite a basic game, it seems. I know I may be of the minority, but hear me out.

There seems to be quite a delay between when you click to move and when your character actually moves. Seriously it's like an entire second I must wait. Also, even with the very basic graphics options (which is incredibly disappointing. I know you can do better.) off with everything, there is extreme lag. I'm getting about 10 frames average. It seriously is bad. I don't have a gaming rig nor will I be getting one soon but I could run the old Haven with barely any problems. Most games like this I can run just fine, but why does this one have such horrible performance? Does anyone else experience this? I just think that further optimizations should be made. It seems like it's barely optimized. Anyways, Maybe I just don't have the right things up or whatever. I know that this game is quite CPU intensive it seems, but I don't really think it's optimized for only being CPU intensive. Just try and help us for the people who don't got all the fancy hardware.
CPU: Pentium 4 2.4ghz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 64mb
RAM: 4gb

Now I know this isn't the best, But i'd think that with the optimizations that I already have done to this computer, I thought i would get atleast 30 fps.
Thanks for readin'.

Have you tried that and fooled around with it? I'm guessing not many people payed attention to that and gave loftar feedback on it.

I also get the input delay. That might be from the super slow route my packets take to the server though?

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0Ghz 125W 8-Core
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3Gb 384-Bit GDDR5
RAM: 32Gb Kingston 'Beast' Series

I average about 40FPS above ground, and always cap out at 60 in the mine/houses. I have all the shadows/lighting turned off and ground clutter disabled.

Java games in general dont have great framerates.

No, the primary performance disadvantage with running a JIT is the memory overhead, which can be twice that of a well-designed native program. General performance isn't much worse (this isn't the 90's anymore, when that was the case) and getting performance increases out of native code often relies on very complex unmaintainable code.

Here is a link from 5 years ago. Note that JIT technology has even improved since then (slightly). I dislike java as a language but please don't spread false information.

Thanks for the help guys! I hope we can spread the word about this a little more. It's alot more comforting to see others having the problems I have aswell. :)

Any other tips to try and improve performance?

Get a custom client like amber and disable flavour objects, enable simple crops. Someone may figure out some micro-optimisations in a client but it's unlikely.

To be fair you are extremely fortunate you are able to run hafen on a ~15 year old cpu with no graphics card. Haven 1 was 2d sprite based, like 1990s era games, which is why it was easy to run even on ancient hardware.
