Paving should decay and return to the natural state if its unclaimed and unused.

Indeed, but after a lot of time, like 6 months. Places that are abandoned should just slowly start fading away, until you couldnt tell that someone once lived in there.

IDK about that, I love exploring ruins. Maybe if buildings didn't disappear completely but turned into some ruined state. Like a house with a collapsed roof and maybe a collapsed wall or two, with vines and moss growing all over it. Then I guess I'd be fine with empty pavement disappearing completely.

Indeed, ruins are the best thing about worlds in the later stages. Through the presence of decaying objects you can tell how old a ruin is, and when you see nothing but pavement and runestones you've stumbled upon an ancient ruin. It's always interesting to wonder what the place looked like a long time ago, with only pavement and runestones hinting at what was once there.

Gradually ruined paving eventually decaying to nothing would be sweet.

Perhaps have it rather slowly decay into overgrown cobblestones, basically the current textures but with grass and dirt peaking through. A long while after that completely decaying?

With an option to restore it to former glory that is cheaper then completely redoing it from scratch, please.

So please teach the server to, when loading a part of the map, apply the decay that would statistically have been applied to this section to bring it into the state it would have reached when not hibernated. You already deal with domesticated animals in the map, so why not go the whole way?
