More Unique and Rare Terrains

Postby ricky » Thu Jan 19, 2017 6:21 am

So I think the new cave flora is very interesting, And would like to see more interesting additions in the same vein.

Looking at the odditown world map, you can immediately see some terrains have been localized to certain sectors of the map in large clumps. I think this localization is good, and adds some variety. I would, however, like to see even more unique and rare terrains spread across the map, similar to how swamps behave. In addition to these rare and unique terrains, I would of course like to see rare and unique trees, foragables, and animals here aswell.

ideas for unique terrains can be pretty much anything:
Fungus/Mycelium terrain with mushroom trees, above average fungus spawn rates, and poppycaps
An even thicker version of the Deep tangle, similar to legacy's Thicket
badlands with more rolling hills, less giant cliffs. no trees and sparse vegitation

how about cave color based on the place on world map or the biome which is above? :) could be totally for L1 but would defo make exploring those tunels fun for a while xD for now its gray everywhere until you dig walls.

Badlands sounds interesting; not so much a desert but a desolate, rocky plain with canyons and plants like witherwood. Thorny thistles and brambles could be foraged in this biome, as well as possibly new, more rare herbs. Also make it so that rivers stop when they reach a badlands biome and only small pools can be found in it. I've seen similar types of terrain; they occur all over the world, usually in areas with rock too sandy to hold water, so it's very dry and only short grasses and bushes grow, as well as spindly trees. Only thing is, this sounds just like the rocky parts of mountains that are already in game.

More and more differentiated terrains is always a worthy goal.
