Forum Management

Postby magisticus » Fri Dec 01, 2017 11:04 am

Forums are a bit of a mess, it's getting difficult to search for stuff due partly to the amount of posts, trolling and repetition which itself is a symptom of peops not being able/inclined to search through the mounds of crap to see whether what they are spouting is or is not original.

As deleting/locking stuff that lies in the grey area of relevance agravates people, suggest that a function is added allowing the originator of a thread and forum mods to designate posts as either particularly good and pertinent to a topic or vice versa with forum mods being able to do the same to threads and then a filter function allowing the user to filter between the three categories.

Yeah we need stricter rules. Mods have it way too easy these days!

Rules don't solve problems. Sometimes even the mods themselves don't follow them. Better management can be achieved by recruiting more mods for counterchecks and shared responsibilities.

I don't think such a function is supported by the forum.

A) 1998 search engine built into the forum software. Needs fixed. Until then, learn 2 google (I guess). Or learn to use the search engine. wildcard characters are your friend.

B) Lack of hands can be a problem, especially if something is blowing up and nobody is around.

C) Need more archiving at world resets... problem is sorting out what is correct and current information, what is old. Downside is what happened at world 8... w4-7 obviously never existed because there are no (visible) posts from then....

D) Just plain old outdated forum software. Not sure loftar is up to doing the migrations needed to seriously update it, though.

And missed one (edit)
E) An accurate and up-to-date wiki means you don't need to dig through the forums for accurate game mechanics and information. Ricky and many others do a great job contributing. I try to do a bit here and there when I see something is missing or inaccurate. We just need more people contributing a little, and it's not any harder than using a word processor. (Leave the links and coding to those that know how to do it if you don't want to bother with it.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Had no serious troubles with any related information since - oh god - 2009. We have a wiki which is pretty informative and a search if you urgently need to search some trashtalks (nothing important on the forums that can't be found without a local\google search). Don't pile up problems.

The only thing i miss is the "I will find you" thread by Hiro from W3. ¦]

P.S. More nice hats please!
