Why Rowan Berries are not eadible?

As I know, peoples can eat fresh rowan berries and use it for cooking.
Wiki also know that fact.

Interesting, I had no idea. Every book I had as a kid claimed they were moderately poisonous and warned of the dangers of confusing rowan berries with rose hips.
But yeah, according to Wikipedia this is a myth, at most the uncooked berries can cause a stomach ache.

IIRC they becoming edible and sweet after first frosts.

It was probably limitation to prevent kids or someone else gathering them for fun, because this is important food for birds during winter.
