The Pick Axe - Miners trusty tool and weapon!

Friends and kinsman of the mountains and caves!

Why isn't the pick axe considered a melee weapon ? For those times you're delving deep into a cave system, finding galleries, mining ores, discovering gems... then out of no where you're swarmed by slimes, boreworms, and even the nasty trolls!

The pickaxe, if you think about it, should be a considerable (though improvised) melee weapon even in untrained hands. Just like the trusty axe or or odd butchers cleaver one might find themselves using to defend themselves. So why not give the pickaxe some love, while also giving our miners some love too? Swing the pickaxe not only to find valuables and riches, but to defend yourself too when those pesky critters come from the shadows. A miners trusty tool and best friend should be the pick axe. It just makes sense!

I asked about it a few weeks ago, and it got a nice reception as an idea, as Jorb more or less stated that he had just forgot to do it, which gives me hope! But I want to see what everyone else thinks about it. Would it be cool? Useful? Helpful even.
