The issue:
When a village idol pops, whether from sieging or decay from no auth, the flags become a tremendous area blocker. They must individually be bashed or decay to nonexistence (unsure if they even do, at a reasonable speed.) and have an ungodly amount of health for the first case. Village banners will often out-live even the last bits of paving in a village. When your village idol pops, you have no ability to rebuild the idol to reclaim your flags. You are ousted from your village, the banners become unauthed (regardless of your village's prior auth pool, in the event of a siege,) and your only recourse is to smash and rebuild fully. This becomes terrible for a ton of different reasons, like "if your village isn't also p-claimed, your entire base is goatse'd for this whole process."
While this is basically the doomsday cataclysm scenario of your village being sieged, and it can be argued you SHOULD be severely punished, your punishment is insanely disproportionate because now you have to bash each and every one of your old flags, which serve absolutely no purpose now other than arbitrarily slowing you down/imposing a name text and preventing the walls under their dead ownership from being freebashed (even though the v-gates are now just open holes)
The solution:
When your village idol pops, you should either have the ability to re-found an idol in an old bannered location, or it should immediately, rapidly deconstruct all of your flags. The former would definitely make more sense from a playability and recovery standpoint, but the latter would be more akin to what is happening now, with tedium removed.
