Rework Steel Making

Having to refuel the steel crucible or risk losing progress towards making the steel sucks, it's not fun and doesn't respect the player's time. Everything else in the game you can bake/cook overnight and not worry about having to logging in at an odd hour to make sure you don't lose progress. Ore smelters, kilns, and the cauldron you can all fill up and forget about it. Even ovens you can load up with just 4 sticks and not worry about burning your food.

I'd much rather have steel take twice as long to cook and not need to refuel it, than the current system as is.

Current system pretty much presents three options:

1) Schedule your sleep and going outside -schedule around the steel refuel timer.

2) Get a bot to do it for you.

3) Buy steel from someone doing 1 or 2. Expect to pay a premium, with all the stuff gated behind steel.

There's actually a very common 4th option: Be in a fairly large village with people from at least 2 different continents/timezones. You coordinate through discord pings and a dedicated channel the timings needed for refilling. Then you refill it every 4 hours while being nervous like a coffee addict who hasn't had a drink in 3 days.

I don't think anything that goes multi day in the game should have a leeway <24 hours.

I too love it when video games decide mandatory requirements for the people I should befriend in order for me to be able to play said video games, such as "must be from at least 2 different timezones with 8+ hours difference".
Oh and god forbid they have a job, cause I have a job. Someone's gotta cover the other 18-20 hours per day while I work/sleep/have a life.

Dumb ass mechanics.

hafen has a major issue with being respectful of a player's time in many of its more pressing timegates. A major stride was made toward reducing that relationship between the game and the player this world though with the removal of the overdone cheese into gouda shit, and that sort of philosophy change should be copied over to many of the other timers of a similar nature.
