Metal mold items bad for trading

Postby Fostik » Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:32 am

Well it was clear it was done to pushback metal qualities skyrocketing early world, it is also known it then brings some inconvenience in late game, but topic I've not seen raised is how it is affecting trade.
Crafting any item/object requiring mold is hard and requires too much resources in order to make it viable for trade. Quite simple items such as frying pan, anvil and hammer are way less common among trading goods on markets.
This brings artificial scarcity and added value which doesn't reflect their true value.

IMO, there should be alternative ways to craft such items, using advanced industries.

Idk frying pans being scarce seems completely made up, maybe if you see an opportunity to sell them, use it.
The problem with anvils is not time, it's cost. They are very high investment items because of clay, and when one is made, it sits on a market for weeks without anyone buying it. Hermits can't afford it and villages make their own. Yet every faction still offers these "scarce" items for sale.

I never said time is the concern, or the only concern, you made this up yourself.
Indeed the main concern is price which is brought by high q clay required for a single craft.

Please check https://brodgar.io/trade/, tell me how much "Frying pan" or "Smithy's Hammer" results you get in search, then please compare it to "Pickaxe", "Sword", "Metal Saw" results.

if you see an opportunity to sell them, use it

We are not discussing trading opportunities here, I don't think they need to be discussed. The main topic of this is unnecessary added value and artificial scarcity to aforementioned items caused as side effect from introduction of gating mechanics.

I think you didn't get the point of thread, try better.

Yeah I hate the mould mechanics and also how it requires building them near a smelter. Just let me slap the bars together again it was so much easier. In CDDA even a big rock counts as an anvil, maybe take a little inspiration from their tool quality system.

Just make the mold items something you make in an hour or two instead of 24h.
