Credos in 2025

Postby Eiður » Tue Jan 28, 2025 7:51 pm

Alright, credos—let’s talk about why this system feels like a step backward. The old slider mechanic, where you could gradually tweak your character’s stats over time, was flawed but gave players agency to experiment and adapt. Credos? They’re rigid, all-or-nothing perks that lock you into static bonuses. The slider let you evolve your character naturally—whether you were experimenting with hybrid builds or adjusting to your group’s needs.

Now, to unlock even one decent credo, you’re forced to grind through hours of repetitive quests. It’s not just punishing to die mid credo—it’s actively discouraging players from engaging in the system. The old slider rewarded organic, easy progression that rewarded you simply for playing. The worst part? The devs marketed credos as ‘giving players meaningful choices,’ but all they’ve done is replace flexibility with FOMO. The slider wasn’t perfect, but at least it respected our time. Bring back the mechanic that let us play the game instead of chore the game.

Sliders can be botted by alts from day one. Credos slow the progression of the fastest progressing groups by at least that much

For newer players, credos could be improved timing wise. That the credo bonus is implemented as a normal increase to attributes/abilities means that doing credos "too soon" wastes too many LP and FEPS that could have been saved by holding off. Implementing credo bonuses as a flat bonus would reduce this blunder somewhat

This right here 100% it should be on TOP of the Base Stat not just 'free levels' I had to explain to my Villagemate that I was intentionally dragging my ass on the Farmer Credo so that I could cross 100 before getting that final +50 boost. If it were a Specialization Buff that was added on top of my Base Stat then I could push thru that one and get to the REAL credos (Farmer I kind of feel is one of those obligatory ones)

I Dont think Credo's are inherently bad.....but they do definitely need a rework a bit.

For instance other than treating the +X Skill/Stat being a Permanent Buff rather than Free Stats/Levels

Some of the Branches need to make more sense and be more Thematic towards 'Specialization' FOR EXAMPLE! Why is Lumberjack Hunter+Forager? Why isnt it a specialization of Farmer and called 'Arborist' One branch is gardening ,other is Trees..... Why do i need to hunt to chop and grow a tree?
