yearly incoherent QoL requests, PVP edition

To contest meteor:
  • Meteor event happens
  • Wait until night to track
  • Spenda full bar of travel weariness + probably 2K XP to track, which is like 30min of questing without a network
  • Roughly triangulated, now hearth and wait 3-5 in game days
  • Wake up in the middle of the night, travel to where the meteor is landing, spend 30 minutes searching
  • It's not there. Because the timer rounds 1 whole in game day (over 7 hours) you were early
  • Hearth home (can't logout) wait another few hours
  • Travel to where the meteor is a third time
  • Scavenge the area again (you don't know where it is exactly, just roughly)
  • Tap meteor with a pickaxe, get another timer that isn't actually a real timer, just a 7.2 hour maybe this is the timer rounded in game time bullshit
  • Hearth home (can't logout)
  • Wake up in the middle of the night again
  • Travel there
  • Mine the meteor for over an hour, nobody else showed up (I wonder why)
  • Reward: dakkan will pave the meteor on something you can't see because of flatworld

Even early world when there's 40-80 people per side who give a shit there have been off the top of my head at least 5 times entire factions have just not showed up because nobody was willing to properly do this bullshit. There have been times when people have told us when/where to show up because they know it will be uncontested when they don't.

To defend a realm challenge:
  • Wake up at 3am
  • Wait for ping to say you've been challenged
  • Go on an hour long adventure to get the thingwall they challenged so you can port in later
  • Wait 3 hours
  • Teleport to the thingwall
  • Bash the flag, uncontested 99% of the time after the first 2 realm expansions because they went back to bed. It's 3am, why would they guard that shit.
  • Wait 20 minutes for redhand to end because it was built on a claim
  • Port Home
  • They challenge the same thingwall 30 minutes later
  • This gets repeated 3-4 times
  • Add the additional step of teleporting to every neutral realm connected to your adversary if they're just challenging neutral realms (the first year of the world)

How to expand realm:
  • Wake up at 3am
  • Teleport around randomly until you find a connected thingwall that is challenged this window OR if you're a mega nerd consult your EXCEL SPREADSHEET for which thingwalls are challengeable in which window
  • Build your flag, set a timer to come back in 2.5 hours
  • A naked alt is bashing the flag
  • Chase the naked alt for 2 minutes before KOing it
  • Hearths and logs out
  • Sit next to the flag until the last minute
  • Alt logs back in and starts bashing the flag, kill it
  • Wait out 20 minutes for redhand
  • Repeat 3-4 times

How to track a criminal:
  • Put in twice as much effort as others when feasting because int is a passive stat that is incredibly easy to raise compared to perc
  • Make a tracking set to wear because, again, detection is A LOT harder to raise than stealth
  • Wait until a hermit screams about getting assraped in realm chat, talk to the subhuman scum and decipher their bug language to figure out where the scent is (their information is mostly wrong and now they're asking you for free stuff + state funeral + telling you their life story)
  • Travel to the scent's location
  • Make 7 crates and a cart
  • Fill the crates with your 10 charge murder, 4 charge battery scents
  • Hearth home and find somewhere to put your array of crates
  • Repeat steps 4-7 until you run out of travel weariness
  • Every however put your tracking gild set back on and track the guy to see if he's off hearth
  • When he's off hearth hurry to gather materials for a snekkja, because he's going to be on a snekkja 99.9% of the time so you need one too or he can just sail away for free
  • Thingwall nearby
  • Build the snekkja
  • By this point 50% of the time he will have hearthed home, but if not
  • 20% of the time they will be close enough to home they can just run into a palisade for free
  • 20% of the time they will run to the nearest thingwall where their friend will be with a rowboat for a free no skill needed escape
  • 5% of the time they will be dogshit and just get KOed in a minute
  • 1% of the time people will port in and there will be a real fight
  • .5% of the time they will die because they're utterly retarded
  • 3.5% rounding error
  • Abandon your snek to get bashed because nobody's driving that shit across the map
  • port home disappointed 99% of the time and gather more materials for the next snek

PVP is always going to be somewhat niche just because of the genre, but I'd argue it was a lot more popular previously, and a large part of why PVP is so niche now is how tedious it is to actually make fights happen. Like 95% of all fights/ganks at a faction are started by the same 5 people even though there's a hundred people down between the factions once the fighting actually starts.

Grab bag of stuff that I firmly believe would not affect regular people much, but would make PVP a lot more engaging:
  • USE REAL FUCKING TIME WITH HOURS AND MINUTES NOT JUST DAYS FOR METEOR TIMERS???????????
  • Make the delta for tracking a meteor TINY instead of the current like 70-90*?
  • Allow meteor tracking during the day
  • Tracking the meteor should also specify when it will cool, even before it lands
  • Tracking the meteor should not cost XP. Why make trying cost something? You want as many people as possible to try. No arbitrary barrier to entry.
  • Maximum 1 person mining meteor at a time, or maybe many people but each 'cycle' only gives out 1 ore
  • Global announcement, or at least announcement to realm owners when ANY thingwall is challenged
  • Do something to prevent people from making safepalis literally 3 fucking tiles from every relevant thingwall in the game as has been the case for years now
  • Free thingwall travel directly to any challenged thingwall from any other thingwall
  • Make challenging a thingwall require murderous rage be active, but only if the above 1 happens as well
  • Make challenging a thingwall redhand you, but only if the above happen as well 2 else it will be pointless
  • Remove the brimstone cost from warflags it's not valuable it's just annoying and tedious to get
  • Refund the materials used to challenge a province if you win, and maybe make the challenge more expensive if so
  • If you lose a challenge you don't get to challenge again for that window, or at least not the same realm or thingwall........
  • Minimap icons for thingwalls should show the timer for each thingwall, ELSE JUST MAKE EVERY FUCKING THINGWALL ON THE SAME TIMER rEeeeEEE
  • Raise base grievous damage to 50%
  • Raise aggro range to be render distance (if you do this you have to raise raw hide dist too or things will be fucked) < big 1 for tracking outlaws
  • Raise raw hide distance to be equal to render, if not a bit more
  • Slow anybody in aggro on a rowboat/snekkja/knarr/wagon/sleigh/sled to the speed of a dugout/coracle < big 1 for tracking outlaws
  • Remove normal gates < big 1 for tracking outlaws
  • If not remove normal gates, make glass keys not work on gates
  • Make locked doors stay unlocked for 30 seconds - 1 minute after somebody enters/exits
  • Make winter not unplayable for PVP
  • Change the detection/stealth formula to not be so punishing for having _slightly_ lower stats
  • Lots more charges on scents
  • Some stats on scent's tooltips, like perp's name if memoed, province they're in, maybe even current health if you wanna get REALLY spicy

Agree with meteor and thingwall/realm (mostly windows and timer) stuff, not sure about the rest

Will consider.
Anyway here's variable materials for palisades + hat. See you in 6 months. I need some R&R.

Making meteor tracking easier would indeed be nice.

However, removing the possibility of having safepalis or escaping by boat won’t bring more people into fights. Increasing the grievous damage won’t help either. The activity will drop even faster because the losing alliance will just lose more quickly and quit the world sooner.

There won’t be any minor kingdoms if all challenges are visible to everyone and challenging the TW requires being in murderous rage, as the dominating alliance will simply swarm the person and eventually catch them, since there are no safepalis to run to...

The problem with every world is that there’s a phase where factions fight, but eventually, everyone quits, and the lone remaining fighters from the winning faction just kill the spruces until the end of the world. Personally, I enjoy the faction fighting phase and don’t want it to be even shorter.

I want the meteor to be a pulling force that pulls all hermits from all over the world together like gravity does

If you'd like to pick a single bullet point I'd be happy to explain why you're wrong

The thread is incoherent enough as it is, so no but thanks.
