Allow digging under ocean

By the time you actually manage to dig tunnel long enough to reach the other continent, you could easily have a boat capable of reaching those

Actually, a very good idea, including azrid's comment.

But why?
This would just bring back huge underground highways, making the surface even emptyer. Unless you also plan to remove roads underground.

Continents should mean something. Be their own world within the world. Making them hyperconnected is bad (which is why I'd also love to see Thingwall connections removed between them).

Only benefit I see for this is allowing to settle on tiny islands in the ocean. But at that point maybe just allow to dig a certain amount of tiles in all directions, rather than without limits (as what would be the point of living on an isolated island if you have a tunnel to the continent).

You say it like everyone and their mothers not teleport around using charter stones anyway. Building a tunnel will take arguably more work than building a charter, especially if they will be restricted to level 5 as azrid suggests. (and/or like, credo?)

No, that makes the game worse
Populatuon isnt high enough for “locality” to improve anything, especially after week 4

Emptier from milestones everywhere.
I doubt anyone is building mega highways when thingwalls and vortexes exist. I bet this will be mostly used just to mine under the sea for resources not to make an underground network anyway. And even if someone did build an underground highway it will have very little impact on the game.

We also have charterstones that allow you to teleport anywhere in the world if set up.
I doubt they are removing all these ways to travel across great distances.

Underground highway would have the advantage in terms of accessibility - Thingwalls need visitation beforehand, and vortex are random (shuffled every few weeks.) Fresh character would have much easier time taking a tunnel, presuming one can be built in at least semi-public manner (to prevent vandalism, the entire tunnel would have to be claimed and walled from the surrounding tunnels/rock if you'd want it to be always open to the public.)

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, though (at least entirely.)

They do, and that's already a problem. If it was up to me, all teleports would be gone (except Travel to HF). But at least keeping them continent-based would still make it so you don't have to worry too much about people from the other side of the map just popping in in a matter of seconds.

I disagree.
Locality is how you build communities.
At this point I'd rather play with 1 continent only, so we're all stuck there together.

I'm 100% sure someone would. Easy to do with bots too.

Travelling far away from people used to mean something. Now it's less and less useful. And under-ocean pathways would make it even more so (as not everyone has charters on multiple continents, or goes around to get all thingwalls necessary to cross it).
