Silkworms rework

Postby Hasta » Tue Jan 13, 2026 2:10 am

Inspired by thread that asks for a boring increase of feeding cycles skipped for sped up servers so the silkfarming remain convenient to casual players.

I have a different suggestion, and I genuinely think it's simple, elegant and adds a lot to game intricacy.

1. Make silkworms not disappear after they starve IF left on Herbalist table, but turn into a moderately good curio "dried silkworm" (kinda like Tealeaves with 2 stages of drying).
2. Add ability "Revive a silkworm" after you get Druidic Rite skill. The ability (or spell) turns Dried silkworm into a just hatched alive silkworm. Casting would use 0.2l of water and 10-20 exp, with quality of water used softcapping the revived worm quality.

Maybe silk cocoons could get the same treatment cheese got where it won't progress to the ne t stage unless it's changed container. Maybe let their timers tick down to 90% or something and the last require a container change to happen.

Might be a little unintuitive though without a useful tool tip of sorts.

In memoriam to another cupboard of sweet innocent silkworms that are feeding on leaves and pooping precious silk in heaven now.

Between that rusty bolt bucket bullcrap pile of a w16.1 server crashing every few hours and extra-fast silkworms dying speed on that server even the alarms set up IRL don't guarantee the ability to juggle work, sleep and fucking silkfarming.

Read the OP. Think about it, and think about it hard. Looking at you @jorb! The easy way would just be to slow the server down to 0.00 speedup, but what's the fun in that, and when did you ever pass on a possibility to add convolution on top of convolution?

P.S. doesn't it bother you that Silkworms are one of those very rare things in Hafen that disappears into thin air? I mean, most things mutate, drop into fishing or digging pools, yet Silkworms are but a lucid dream, the monster from our nighmares, just dissolve into nothing without a timely leaf shoved into it's mouth. That's an overlook for sure.

Don't hate this, and would be congruent with dormant livestock. Will consider.

I skimmed this suggestion before, but this is actually brilliant.

You make a compelling argument

Edit: Love the suggestions for silkworm food recipes. Toaddy approves!
