var = disable editing of posts

var = disable editing of posts

Disable editing of posts if they were written more than... ago. (set your own value) 30 minutes or an hour.
This is the second thread where someone/frog edits all their posts, making it unclear what they were talking about. In some cases, this isn't important, but in others, it's bad.

You can leave 1st message in a thread as an exception.
And even that's not necessary - if they want to change it, they can create a new thread with an improved version of the text.

There are numerous instances where that would be counterproductive: for example, posts about custom clients are regularly updated, "locking" them will force developers to create a new "original thread" every time a client is updated.

Forum posts are marked with "edited" note after someone comments after the posts. That's enough.

someone/frog edited all his/her posts as an act of vandalism out of spite, rendering all of his/her thoughts and musings a mere trolling not worthy of attention.

The loudest recorded bird so far is the white bellbird (up to 125 decibels, the equivalent of a jet engine taking off). The males scream into the faces of the females to prove they are worthy mates. Mmhmm.

not gonna edit any further because this bird fact feels very fitting for this forum ;)

I understand this, so I suggested leaving the ability to edit one post per thread as an exception.
Game developers and moderators, in theory, have completely different restrictions.

Yes, it's because of Frog, but it's not the first time I've seen this. And this is where it's clearly visible that the text has been changed. Knowing that the text has been edited usually doesn't help.
Most forums have a time limit on editing messages. This isn't always convenient, yes, especially if you like to write long texts, but otherwise, it's no problem. If there are other cases where text editing is necessary, please let me know.

inb4 this jorb retard comes and says "WHAT A GOOD IDEA" instead of fixing actually important shit we've been complaining for 6+ years

There are thread original posts that *NEED* to be editable even months/years later:
- Ender's client thread was posted in 2015, he last edited it in 2024
- Coles' (EXTREMELY OUTDATED) Little-Known Pro-Tips Thread was posted in 2015, last edited in 2024
- Threads in the moot that edit the OP to add updates
- ALL POSTS UNDER Apples For Oranges
- Lots of posts in Dwarves & Thieves
etc etc etc

don't let some stupid forum alt troll you. troll it back. Call them the n word. Get banned. repeat.

If I understand correctly, you're talking about the first message in the thread. If you read above, they're on the exceptions list—I understand that threads need to be edited.

I have hardly been in these sections and would be grateful for an explanation of why need to edit all messages there (except the main one, the 1st one)?
I don't know about the Dwarves & Thieves quests, but in exchanges (Apples For Oranges), it seems the less editing, the better (no black bookkeeping in pencil!). Or not?

But you actually don't:

If forum trolls bother you when they edit their messages, stop using the forums

"I never used X therefore I can provide feedback on why X needs to be changed" is the reason retarded hermits that play for 13+ years (but can't figure out how to cheese a boar) somehow manage to convince jorb to change good things into bad things, and convince him to not actually fix the real bad things.
