[AI]Bots (UPDATE INFO 11.01.2025

Yo, anyone tried to create game bots by using AI?(ChatGPT) :D

[UPDATE}17/12/2024/

The entire operation went smoothly. I created a small village in which I placed 6 characters(bots). Based on the scripts I wrote with the help of AI, the bots independently “learn” the game. They used a rather strange tactic. The computer on one of the accounts in order to learn drowned the character. From observation, I can see that one character is boosted by other accounts and its stats are upgraded quite rapidly to increase the value of items.

I want to point out that my expert opinion has only a scientific purpose.
Continued respectfully, Dr. Petrov [TBC]

NEW(23.12.2024) UPDATE!!
The bots are amazing...
Они получили невероятную осведомленность и знания игровой механики.
They gained incredible awareness and knowledge of game mechanics.
The situation was out of my control. I am no longer in control.
Ситуация вышла из-под моего контроля. Я больше не контролирую ситуацию.

Its easier and less frustrating to do it the traditional way.

I just thought of it today, whether it'd be useful to make use of AI for making simple high-level scripts. In my experiments, the AI was rather good at defensive coding, covering for a lot edge cases. But the problem with AI's is their rather short "attention span", making it hard to explain engine usage and to ask exactly for what I want in a single query. Like, even the simplest bot I have is over 200 lines, covering for about a dozen of weird cases... and it still crashes like every day or two for whatever reason.

But the huge problem with AI is that it likes to imagine things. Like, method calls and mechanics that never existed. I imagine, if I were to plug ChatGPT to my interface, it would keep crashing every few minutes just by trying to do dumb shit like trying to pick up a house, or it would get stuck thinking it is dead just because it entered a cave.

tldr: Shit's tough

Hello Dr. Petrov, your experiment sounds fascinating, What kind of game mechanics did the bots use to improve their stats so rapidly? Also, how did you manage the bots' actions to ensure they didn’t get too out of control?

Should it not be moved to the Inn? On the case of being larp.

Yeah looks like larp thingy, aside of intentions and impressions it doesn't have any evidence.

On topic of actually using AI.

Yesterday I got completely desperate with one of my haven-related scripts. So I tried asking chatGPT, for the first time ever, to try and find any errors in a snippet from one of the key pieces of that script.

I... didn't know that AI could just give up. I know my code ain't best, and I can't provide the chat log for privacy reasons. But, basically it understood the purpose of the code, broke it down into step-by-step explanations of how every step works... and gave no pointers for a solution.

I asked again about errors, it said to try and check whether the arguments passed to the function are correct.

I ensured it that they are, and tried to guide it around the snippet and pay attention to specific details I wasn't quite sure about.

It went through each and every one of them and confirmed that they are, indeed, correct.

When asked what could I add to harden the code and trace issue, it suggested adding null-checks at certain places and copy-pasted to me the parts that were already there in the initial code I provided

It took me a few more hours of investigation, but the bug was, indeed, in that function, and AI completely failed to recognize it, nor suggested any ideas that would lead to me finding it.

Safe to say, we're not there yet.
