Its something I have in mind. Desktop versión runs much faster but its a bit tricky because generating the grids at runtime takes several minutes, specially the better quality ones, and a huge amount of RAM.
On the other hand, having them pre-generated like in this web version takes a huge amount of disk space. We're talking about 40GB if you want a 1:5 quality and quickly increases up to a 250GB if you want 1:1.

Maybe loftar will give us more data in the future so that we can really 3d map the world for future ;D

This was done with data everyone can generate by themselves and share, just from exploring and exporting it to .hmap file. I asked J&L for previous world map data so we can have w9-w12 3D view like this, still nothing tho

Updated with initial World 16 data.
Improved performance a bit.
Added a new level of detail when very close to the terrain.

Im looking for contributions from the community. If you have areas that are not shown on the 3D map and you want to contribute, please contact me on Discord. Username: irongete
Due to previous world map backups and map exporter changes, previous worlds are not included in this version. Moved the World 13, 14 and 15 maps here https://brodgar.io/map/old/

Thanks!!

Hmm.
Sorry to see no changes where made to the navigation system (or its documentation).
Also still has some odd bug that on your first left-mouse click drops one into some limbo location looking at an empty horizon with no visual reference to where you are.

Fixed the camera glitch.
Tweaked shaders a bit for more realistic colors.
Added more data for central continent.

Just curious, on biggest zoom it shows everything in tiles, and some quite big villages is like 10x10 tiles, what is the scale of the tile there?
