It is an unfortunate reality that most small groups are unlikely to have anyone technically able to run their own map (if they even realize they exist), and most groups that do don't want to share.
I had a lot of fun going through the different git forks and dockers that had the mapping service just to see what people had changed in publicly visible places, and it was usually things like adding cave icons, or adding a thingwall dropdown.
I would assume that most of the groups that can't set up their own map would appreciate the first option, especially if they don't feel like it will screw them over.
If the third option is offered I would almost certainly use it. It takes no time or effort to spin up the map for anyone who has done it before.
Git being the land of lost projects is unfortunate. There isn't a great way to find haven related project there other than crawling around the forum or searching for expected names, and steam launch is unlikely to change that.
I doubt most players would even be aware that a mapping service they could run themselves exists since it would involve going several pages back in the forum usually.
It just sucks that the possible consequences of contributing are pretty harsh. If big groups can see the map, its generally not hard to figure out where people are likely to be in any less populated areas.
I loved being mostly alone in the last world up on the north continent, until some group moved in several weeks in and was actively griefing everyone in what was probably an attempt to drive everyone from the continent. Most of the other randos I had met around the continent just stopped playing when that happened. Much as contributing would make it less likely we will find a nice dead area to play in, everyone wants a public map and I would rather contribute. Worst that happens is we get griefed out of playing until the next world starts, and having played in every world since 3 I don't really mind if that happens.
