Try using Shift key.

that's what I used previously (picked the dig action, pressed shift and tried to select area, but it didn't work regardless, the character just went straight for the tile I was clicking on)

Select dig, than LMC+Shift on shallow water tile, than wait and observe ... (empty inventory advised, shovel too to speed things up.)

there was no highlight of selecting area and the character went before I could drag it while I was still holding the click, however

with farming it just works (probably just like in default client)

but with digging clay I just can't get it to work!

saying the steps I just said I have done does not help me!

Someone eager to learn stuff would have just followed my instruction to the letter instead of thinking "But ...".

It was was working 20 min ago. I came back to relaunch the game and the client suddenly stopped working.

Yep, tried ender client on my old PC. Still problems with hafen file. I think something messed up client. Not good because i think ender is the best.
