After some back and forth, we reinstalled the game on a different storage.

Reasoning:
A different path get's rid of all application bound settings made by nvidia's app / control panel.
Game actually works now.

Appreciate the time you took to give me and hand and find a quick solution to this.

It is with sad news that I must report that after 8 hours of the game running with no issue after installing it to a different SSD, I am now getting the overlay error once again and the game is unplayable through steam for me.

Chiming in here from the void to reaffirm that I'm having an exact same issue, right down to the error code.
White flash, freeze and error code, disabling every overlay doesn't help.
Will be watching; hope we both see a fix before the new server drops.

I've found that uninstalling and reinstalling the game to my other SSD has solved this issue for me.

Didn't you just say that installing it on a different SSD didn't work because the problem came right back after 8 hours? This doesn't sound like much of a fix for ether of us.
I might as well try it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't say its a complete fix. The first time I did it, I lasted the 8 hours as I mentioned before but now the time is just progressively extending.
I had an alt logged in for 17 hours and no error showed up. I logged out, logged back in, reloaded the game entirely and nothing happened.

Threw Steam out the door and used the Ender client .Jar from this site, works like a charm. Steam is great, but not for this game. Good Hearthing out there!
