Small note from the last patch:

The client seems to work fine with any java version between Java 15 - Java 21
I've also been playing on GraalVM 21 (some different open-source java distribution based on OpenJDK), and I seem to get like 15-20 extra FPS out of the client

I updated the Play.bat to just use whatever latest java version you have on your computer, but you can also manually change the java version you want to run (for example, to use GraalVM or OpenJDK, or any other custom stuff you nerds want to use)

I always post the changelog and whatever in the discord server, but I figured some people don't want to join the discord so I'm putting this here as well.

works on my desktop, get "a java exception has occurred" on launch on my laptop. Any insights? updated Java, cleared appdata, it does this with and without the updater.

Are you using Play.bat to launch it?
What java version are you using?
Where are you getting this error, is it in the command prompt window?

I've been launching from hafen.jar on both computers lol. Play.bat brings up a command prompt for a sec before is disappears.

Didn't answer my java version question, but anyway, update your client to the latest version and use the Play.bat file to launch the client. Try adding it to your windows defender exceptions list or whatever and see if it still does that.
It should work with any java version between Java 15 and Java 21.

Yeah I'm retarded I had Java 23, didn't read close enough obviously, sorry. Don't worry about it, I was trying to do this while in an airport too, traveling.
